Chain 7, make 1 p, ch 2, fasten with 1 d in top of 3d t of 1st petal of last row, using- both threads at the top of the stitch, make 2 p, 2 ch, Fasten in 6th t of same petal.
Crocheted baby cap
Repeat all around, tutting in one extra loop, so there will be 15 loops around the rose. 9th row * Chain 5, 1 d between next 2 p, ch 3, turn, 7 t in loop formed by 5 ch, 1 ch, turn. Using both threads at the top of the I. make 7 d on the 7 t just made. ** This makes one fan. Make 2 p, 2 ch, fasten between 2 p of previous row. Repeat from ** once. Repeat from * all around. There will be 5 fails with 2 loops between every 2 fans. 10th row— Make row of loops and picots like 8th row, having 2 loops at the back of one fan. 11th row —Make like 9th row. Repeat rows until you have 3 rows of Cans, Have 3 rows of loops and picots around the last row of fans, skipping a loop occasionally and crowding the medallion in a little, for the crown. Make more rows of loops if you wish a larger cap. Make roses like the centre of the crown, only with 6 petals instead of 7, join them together in a line. Latch up the side petals and join the loses around the crown medallions with the picots and loops.

For the front of cap make square medallions by making the rose of 6 parts instead of 7, as in the crown. Have 12 loops around the rose. Make 2 rows of fans. Join the medallions together between p. Join the crown to face part with loops and p. Leave two roses free at the back, fill in with 3 rows of loops and p to make the cap a little longer in the back and help to fit it to the head.

Make four square medallions similar to front of cap for the turn-back portion, Finish with a row of roses along the outer edge. Place turn hack portion over front of cap. Join the two parts by 6 ch, 1 d, between each 2 p of loops. Work around back of cap in the same way, perhaps using 4 or 5 ch instead of 6 ch, if the cap needs to be held in tight. Finish all around cap with 10 d, 4 ch, io d, over ch of row below.

LEAVES. — Cham 10, turn, skip 1st ch and I d in 8 sts of ch, 3 d in end St. 6 d on other side ch, turn, ch 3,7 d in 7 d (in hack loops ), 3 d in st at turn, 6 d in 6 d on other side, turn, ch 3, 7 d in 7 d, 3 d at turn, and continue up and down each side in this way, always putting 3 d in st at end until there are six points on each side.

Crocheted baby slippersMake four leaves, one large rose (with four rows of petals), two roses with three rows and two with two rows of petals. Cut a pattern to fit a baby's foot. Sew the large rose on toe of pattern and two leaves midway on two upper petals of rose. (The leaves should he joined to rose with
d just as rose is being completed.)  Sew the next size smaller rose, with leaf attached, on each side of pattern, and the smaller roses near back on each side. Make a chain long enough to go entirely around edge of pattern and sew down firmly, beginning at back. The roses and leaves should be sewed down firmly also, wrong side outward. Begin at lower right-hand corner and make a row of double p across entire lower edge, thus: ch 6, p (turn ch backward I, ch 6, p, ch 3, d in 5th or 6th ch.

When reaching other side of back, make single p and join with d in 4th or 5th ch on back. Turn, double p in double p across, putting in a fan about midway of the roses, thus: after making B double p and joining between double p, make ch 6, d between next double p, ch I, turn, 6 d over ch, turn, ch 3, 6 t in 6 d, ch 3, sl st in last d with last t, turn at back and make row double p up to rose at front, catching with d in top of little fans in passing. When reaching rose make single p, d in one of lower petals, single p. d between double p. another single p. d again in rose petal. 3 or 4 sts further along, single p, d between double p and thus across rose and to the hack. Fill in pattern in this way with double p, making a single p wherever necessary to keep meshes uniform in size, and put in a little fan where fancy dictates.

After finishing work rip from background and join the two edges of back with a close row of d on wrong side. Across top make a row of beading in which to run the ribbon thus: Join thread at end of little strap, make about 10 ch, d t in edge, 6 or 7 ch, d t in edge and repeat across. Break thread and join again at end of strap, d over ch around corner toward the top, putting a p every 5 d. Work thus about 11/2 inches back on bootee from strap, when make a small single scallop thus: ch 7, turn, d in 5th d, turn, 4 d over ch, p, 4 d; continue d and p until 4 more p are made, ch 7, turn, d in 5th d, ch 7, d in 10th d (having a p under loop each time), turn, 3 d, p, 5 d in 1st loop, 3 d in 2d loop, ch 7, turn, and d in 3d d on last scallop, turn, 4 d, p, 4 d in top of scallop, 2 d, p, 3 d in last loop.

Continue d and p until 4 p are made, when make 7 ch, p of 5 ch, (turn, ch backward) and sl st in same st in which 7 ch is joined, ch 7, p, ch 7, joining to d each time between p. Turn, 3 d, p, 1 d in 1st loop, ch 7, d in top of middle loop, p in same loop, ch 3, 1 t in top of last loop, turn, ch 7, d in 2d loop, ch 3 and si st in the r d made after partially filling 1st loop, turn and fill loops with d, with p every 4th d. Proceed around other side in same way and around little straps with d and p and across top over instep, but at point make one single little scallop on each side and one like second one at back in the point at front.

SOLE. — Sew a chain around the pattern for sole and work plain loops of 5 ch back and forth across until filled. Sew to top. Run baby ribbon through the beading, tie in small bow and sew a tiny crocheted rose to centre of bow. A small pearl button may be sewed on one strap and a loop made on the other for fastening.
