White linen bags and parasols are important factors in a woman's summer wardrobe. They convey an air of femininity, besides being suitable for use with any costume, and are easily laundered.
Two designs are shown on this page, a bag and parasol to match. One design is very simple, consisting of single daisies, the petals being worked solid, the centres having French knots. On the bag the design should be worked first, then buttonhole the edge of the flap. With this part complete, sew up the sides of the bag with French seams, baste the front and back together along the bottom, and make the buttonholing through both thicknesses. This gives a neatly finished bag. Three tassels are used on the bottom, and white cord is fastened at each side of the top.
While the second design looks to be more difficult, it is really quite simple. The curled edges of the roses are padded and worked solid, while the single lines can be worked in stem stitch or outlining. If preferred, the leaves might be worked in long-and-short stitch along the edges. The flower centres are of French knots. Eight panels are used for the parasol, every alternate one being plain, with the exception of three bees. The bodies, heads, and legs of these bees are outlined, the wings worked with long-and-short stitches along the edges.
Many people have difficulty in mounting parasols, so we have arranged to do this work for a moderate sum. The handle illustrated is the one we supply, and is of carved white wood. When returning the embroidered panels to us, do not, on any account, cut them out. See that they are well laundered and pressed, first running a thread along the stamped line, in order to keep the outline, as this is important.
