This handsome centrepiece may be furnished stamped on either white or tan linen, and measures twenty-seven inches. This piece is especially attractive because of the irregular scalloped edge, which should be worked very carefully, to keep the sharp points and the even curves, otherwise the effect will he lost. The scallops should be padded, a succession of outline-stitches, making a good, even foundation.
The solid sections of the design are worked in satin-stitch, and while the stems may be in outline, they will correspond with the rest of the design much better if worked in common stem-stitch.
The buffet-scarf has the same pattern, and measures twenty by fifty-four inches. If tan is used, shades of brown would be well for working.
An oval piece, measuring eighteen by twenty-five inches, is stamped on a loosely woven material, especially adapted to punch-work. The design is very effective. but not at all difficult, the solid sections being worked in satin-stitch and the lines outlined. A very few eyelets appear in the piece.
Design No. 154-23 has an unusually attractive pattern, and measures forty-two inches in diameter. This, with the napkins and oval endpiece or doily, make a particularly good luncheon or breakfast set. The material is rather loosely woven, and is oyster-white in color, which looks especially well with the colored embroidery.
The large flower in the centre of each motif is worked in pink, covering the surface with successive rows of outline stitch. The small Mowers can be worked solid in blue, and the leaves in green. Little brown dots arc scattered in among the leaves and flowers. Following the line of alternate large scallops, are rows of dots, the larger ones worked in brown and the smaller in yellow. The edge is in green, being quite well padded.
The napkins are fourteen inches square, finished on the edge with a small, even scallop, and can be marked with any initial.
The oval piece is just a good size to also use on a serving-tray, or to put under the glass. In the latter case, do not make the scallops around the edge, but leave it plain, so it will fit easily in the frame.
